Here's a straightforward guide to using a dental autoclave:
Content
•Wash thoroughly: Scrub tools with soap and water to remove debris.
Rinse well: Use clean water to wash off soap residue.
•Dry completely: Pat tools dry with a clean cloth or let air dry.
•Package if needed: Place instruments in sterilization pouches or wraps.
•Fill water tank: Use distilled water only (tap water damages the machine).
•Load items:
Place pouches or trays upright, not touching chamber walls.
Don't overcrowd; leave space for steam to circulate.
Close securely: Lock the door tightly before starting.
•Choose the right setting:
Pick "Gravity" for solid tools (like metal instruments).
Pick "B-Class" or "Vacuum" for pouches or hollow items (like handpieces).
•Start the machine: Press the cycle button; it handles timing automatically.
•Wait: Don't open mid-cycle—let it finish.
•Cool down: Wait 5-10 minutes after the cycle ends.
•Wear gloves: Use heat-resistant gloves to handle hot tools.
•Check pouches:
Look for color change on indicator strips.
Ensure pouches are dry and unbroken.
Store: Keep sealed pouches in clean, dry drawers.
•Empty water tank: Dump leftover water daily.
•Wipe surfaces: Clean inside and outside with a damp cloth.
•Refill: Add fresh distilled water before next use.
